Rev. L. Don Johnston, age 72, of Pinckneyville, IL died at his home on Sunday, January 19, 2003 at 3:26 p.m.
Don was born on October 13, 1930 in Evansville, IN, a son of Albert and Flo Marie (Caldwell) Johnston.  He married Betty Ann Evans on October 30, 1948 in Henderson, KY, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 2002.
Reverend Johnston was a pastor for 55 years, was Pastor Emeritus of Grace Outreach Church, Pinckneyville, former chairman and member of the Pinckneyville Ministerial Alliance, former General Board Member of the International Ministerial Assoc., a friend to various missionary groups, a Kentucky Colonel, author of several books, and provided worship services to the radio and television ministries.
Survivors include 5 sons, John Johnston and wife Sherry of Georgia, Ron Johnston and wife Karen of Oklahoma, Keith Johnston and wife Lou of Indiana, Deon Johnston and wife Barb of Pinckneyville, IL, Tim Johnston and wife Patti of Michigan, one daughter, Candy Steele and husband Reverend Kirk of Pinckneyville, IL, fourteen grandchildren, Lori Ann Johnston, Jenifer Smoker and husband Mike, Jeremy Johnston and wife Jessica, Joshua Johnston, Andrew Johnston, Holly Johnston, Amber Johnston, Kenton Steele, Beth Ann Steele, Nicholas Johnston, Hillary Johnston, Katie Steele, Taylor Rose Johnston and Haley Johnston, great grandson, Michael Patrick Smoker, a sister:  Mary Jane Turner of KY, a sister:  Margie Smith, two brothers:  Clyde and Ted Johnston, and  two sisters-in-law:  Nancy and Edna Johnston, all of FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Williams and other guest ministers officiating. Interment was in the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery in Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. till services.
In lieu of flowers, it was the request of the family that memorials be made to the Rev. Don Johnston Burial Fund care of Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home.
